Our homes were once rudimentary structures. They shielded us from the elements and provided a space for temperature regulation, the bare minimum we needed to survive. Today, they are our own personal ecosystems, custom built to suit our wants and needs. Our desire for increased comfort, security, and ecological stewardship has led us to develop technologies and amend our construction practices that result in the modern home. Perfectly regulated, robust, and efficient, and while we certainly have come a long way since the days of tents made of fur and cabins constructed of hand-hewn logs, we are still learning a lot.
One of the challenges that presents itself in modern homes is that of Indoor Air Quality or "IAQ". In our pursuit of energy efficiency and climate control, we often overlook one of our most basic needs, fresh air. If you have ever heard someone say something along the lines of "they are just building houses too tight these days" and wondered exactly what they meant by that, they meant that someone built an amazing home but forgot about the air. An efficient home is a tight home, but a tight home still needs to breathe. When it isn't allowed to breathe, the health of the occupants and the structure are both at serious risk of suffering and even failing. We all need to remember our air by incorporating products and practices that maintain high level Indoor Air Quality in our homes.
Forgetting IAQ means moisture, mold, smells, and sickness. Remembering IAQ means you can forget about all of that and just breathe.
